Board member expectations

Purpose and Responsibilities

  • To maintain an annual NJWAN membership
  • To serve the Board as a voting member to meet the needs of women living with HIV/AIDS
  • To set policies that will guide the New Jersey Woman and AIDS Network
  • To write, maintain, and update the strategic plan
  • To ensure adequate finances and appropriate expenditure of funds
  • To support the administrator and participate in Board and Committee meetings

Expected Meeting Attendance

  • To attend four (4) out of six (6) annual board meetings and actively participate in discussion
  • Serve on a Board committee, as designated
  • To attend (and pay for one®s participation in) NJWAN®s annual conference and support any two (2) other special events which NJWAN sponsors

Obligations of the Board

  • Establish policy
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate Executive Director or its equivalent
  • Secure adequate fund
  • Monitor and update NJWAN®s long-range plan

Specific Duties

  • Attend meetings and show commitment to board activities
  • Financially support the organization
  • Assume leadership roles in all Board activities, including fund raising
  • Represent the organization to the public and to private industry
  • Educate yourself about the needs of women living with HIV/AIDS

Terms of Office

  • Two years, beginning January 1, 2000
